Goldsmith - Lubitz Siyum Celebration

Sunday, August 10, 2014

Recently Josh Goldsmith and Jack Lubitz celebrated a momentous achievement: the Siyum (completion) of the "39 Melachos of Shabbos" (the 39 categories of labor forbidden on Shabbos) authored by Rabbi Dovid Ribiat. This accomplishment was four years in the making!

“Jack lives several blocks from my house and every Shabbos we met in a neighborhood synagogue and studied together for an hour.  Studying the Laws of Shabbos was especially meaningful because proper Shabbos observance requires a clear understanding of the principles that determine what is halachically permissible on Shabbos." explained Josh.

Six years ago, Rabbi Avrohom Kahn introduced Josh and Jack and suggested they begin learning Torah together.  “I’ve known Josh and Jack for years, because they had been coming to CFR TorahLunch classes in the city. In class, they both displayed a deep intellectual curiosity and were enthusiastic about learning Torah. It gives me particular joy to participate in this siyum (completion) because of Jack and Josh’s devotion to Torah study. They are models who will hopefully inspire others to make time for regular Torah study,” said  Rabbi Kahn.

The seudas mitzva (festive meal that is served at a siyum) was prepared by Rachel Goldsmith, who hails from Savannah, Georgia. Her “Southern hospitality” was on display with her beautiful array of barbecue foods and treats.

Mazel Tov!
