GETTING TO PENN STATION AND THE LIRR:
Penn Station is located on 34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. From Lower Manhattan the best subway to get to Penn Station is the #2 or #3. You can also take the E train, but it is not quite as fast.
TICKETS:
The best way to buy tickets is by purchasing them in advance. Purchasing your ticket on board the train is a cash-only transaction and the most expensive option. Tickets can be purchased at any kiosk in Penn Station. Tickets purchased at a kiosk are much less expensive than if purchased on the train.
If this is your first time traveling to the Bayit using the LIRR, be at Penn Station at least 15 minutes before the train is scheduled to depart to allow enough time to purchase a ticket and locate the train.
When buying your ticket, ask for a ticket to the Kew Gardens station. Take note of the departure time and track number.
LOCATING THE TRAIN:
Trains leave on an exact time schedule. The best way to locate your train and track is by using the departing train schedule time.
When buying your ticket, take note of the departure time and track number, and use this information to locate your train. For example, the Kew Gardens train that you will be taking might say “Babylon” (because this is its final destination) but you want to find the train that departs, say, at “3:46 PM.”
The LIRR train takes approximately 18 minutes to arrive in Kew Gardens from Penn Station.
WHERE YOU SHOULD BE IN THE TRAIN:
Only the first four cars of the train will open their doors at the Kew Gardens Station. This is because the train is actually longer than the station!
DIRECTIONS OUT OF THE STATION TO THE BAYIT:
Exit to Lefferts Blvd (all exiting passengers will be headed in that direction). Turn right onto Lefferts Blvd (you will see a Chase Manhattan Bank across the street) Continue for approximately 1/2 a mile on Lefferts Blvd.
You will pass the following streets: Grenfell, Beverly, Abingdon, Metropolitan Avenue, and 84th Ave until 85th Ave. Turn right onto 85th Ave and continue 2 blocks to 117 St. Turn left onto 117th St and continue until the end of the block.(Corner of 117th St and Babbage St). CFR Bayit is the last house on the left side of the street.
