III. The Difference between Judaism and a Cult

The current movement of ‘return to Judaism’ does not seek out the troubled Jew, as do the Cults.  The Cults prey upon the weak and unfortunate who are looking for someone to take care of their problems.

A simple rule exists to differentiate between a cult and a bona fide religious movement. A cult seeks to recruit adherents for the benefit of the cult; a religious movement seeks adherents to benefit those adherents. Moreover, Judaism in particular desires for each adherent to develop their potential to become leaders and teachers, not mindless followers.
